North End cruised to a fifth consecutive victory against a lacklustre Wolves outfit thanks to goals from Lewis Neal and Brett Ormerod. The Lilywhites were in control throughout the 90 minutes and never looked in danger of conceding a goal as Carlo Nash equalled Tepi Moilanen's clean sheets record for North End with his 23rd shut-out of the campaign.

The only negative was the sight of Brett Omerod who was stretchered off with concussion after bravely diving for the header which made the game safe for the Liywhites midway through the second half.

Preston North End boss Billy Davies  made two changes to the side which won at Leicester City with Kelvin Wilson and Lewis Neal coming in.

The unlucky duo to miss out were Youl Mawene and Chris Sedgwick as North End switched to a more orthodox 4-4-2 formation with both Saturday's goalscorers Jarrett and Whaley selected. The man of the day, Claude Davis was also retained in the starting eleven.

Wolves saw Scottish international striker Kenny Miller return to the side from suspension and he came in in place of Carl Cort to partner Aliadiere and Frankowski in a three-pronged attack.

It was Jamaica day so it was only right that North End's first chance came from a Jamaican connection, Simon Whaley on the right touchline swinging in a great cross that flew straight across the six yard box and had the Wolves defenders in all sorts of problems before they headed it behind for a corner.

Good football from the Lilywhites in the ninth minute when Jason Jarrett won the ball in midfield and set up Lewis Neal who surged down the middle of the pitch but it was a poor final ball into the box.

On 21 minutes North End won a free-kick in a dangerous area after Simon Whaley received a boot from a high boot 15 yards outside the Wolves box. Lewis Neal dummied to shoot and set off into the box, Alexander received his flick-back and played a clever ball in to the path of Neal who was unmarked but off balance and his cross had no power on it.

A minute or so later and Simon Whaley created havoc again with a precise cross to the near post after Agyemang had chased a ball down into the corner. Keith Lowe was forced to take evasive action and took a diving header to clear over the bar.

Wolves had a rare foray into North End territory in the 31st minute when Frankowski played a neat one-two with Miller but he side footed his shot well wide. Seconds later it was another opportunity for Wolves when Frankowski was lurking in the six-yard box forcing Davis into an acrobatic clearance.

Jason Jarrett buoyed by his goal against Leicester at the weekend was enjoying himself in the North End engine room and after setting Agyemang clear on the left he hung around to receive the return pass before striking a goal bound curling effort that was well saved by Postma.

Postma was in the thick of the action again in the 36th minute, this time as he came for and missed a cross that took a diversion away from the keeper and into no man's land in the box. Claude Davis was there to pick up the ball but his shot come cross was wild and he was left cursing the pitch as he slipped.

North End were one goal up in 42nd minute when Lewis Neal scored a stunning strike. He picked up the ball on the right, cut inside one man before hitting a low shot which totally wrong-footed the keeper from 25-yards out and crept inside the post.

It was almost 2-0 on 45 minutes when Jarrett won the ball 40 yards out and set off towards goal, he played the ball to his left where Brett Ormerod had the run at the defence before unleashing a shot that Postma did well to parry.

On 54 minutes after some intense North End pressure Brett Ormerod almost made it 2-0 when he rose highest to a Lewis Neal corner but his header looked to have been tipped over the bar by the keeper.

On 62 minutes Wolves made the first change of the afternoon when they replaced Ricketts with Carl Cort to go 4-2-4.

North End made a change of their own on 65 minutes when Danny Dichio came on for Patrick Agyemang with Wolves fans reminding Dichio of who had played for previously in a less than complimentary way.

On 74 minutes Billy Davies sent on Chris Sedgwick to replace goalscorer Lewis Neal.

And with what was possibly his first touch of the ball Sedgwick played in the ball to make it 2-0 to the Lilywhites. It was fantastic football from the Lilywhites, Jarrett, Alexander and Sedgwick knocking the ball about with confidence before the ball fell at Sedgwick's path, he hit a curling ball into the six-yard box where Brett Ormerod was immensely brave to throw himself at the ball and head home.

That header was Ormerod's last touch of the game as he was involved in a horrific collision as he dived in with the Wolves keeper and after about five minutes of attention from both Club physios and two stadium doctors, he was stretchered off the pitch.

Ormerod was replaced by Matt Hill as North End restructured their formation.

Two stunning strikes in the 79th minute of the game, Simon Whaley almost smashed the crossbar in two when he connected with the ball on the edge of the box. The ball came out to the right and not to be outdone the skipper, Graham Alexander had a crack of his own from distance but he sliced it wide.

On 86 minutes Wolves made another change when Mark Davies replaced Colin Cameron.

Aliadiare created a great opportunity for Kenny Miller in the 90th minute of the game, it was a header that was well saved by Carlo Nash. The Wolves fans celebrated as if they had scored a goal as it was their only chance of the second half and maybe the game.

With seven minutes of injury time there was still chance for a couple more North End attacks, one where Dichio flicked a header in to the path of Whaley, but the young midfielder snatched at his opportunity and the ball trickled wide.
