Fans Aim For British Championship
Preston North End's fans team are tackling Hibernian this weekend for the unofficial British Championship.
Steve Cowell's side have already claimed three pieces of silverware this year with the Fans League title, Team of the Year and the National Football Museum trophy all heading their way and now they have the chance to make it a fantastic four against Hibernian's fans who won the Scottish Cup last season.
North End travel up to Edinburgh to play the first leg of the tie this Saturday before visiting Easter Road to take in the pre-season friendly between Hibs and Middlesbrough, then next week PNE's fans play host to Hibernian's fans for the second leg ahead of Preston's home friendly against Blackburn.
"This is what the fans league was set up to do", said the Preston Manager Steve Cowell.
"It's what it is all about, of course we both want to be crowned Champions of Britain but at the same time this league is all about increasing awareness of your club and helping bring fans together in order to break down rivalries and increase friendships amongst clubs and this is a great example of that."
Meanwhile Cowell has also revealed that his side have been invited to play in Nigeria. The PNE fans were in action at the WorldNet tournament last week and impressed the African nation when they played them in one of the games, so much so it seems that the Nigerians have extended the hand of friendship to the Preston North End lads.
Cowell said: "It's a fantastic offer by the Nigeria team and it's an offer we will definitely think about. It's not every day you are invited to somewhere like Nigeria.
"Most of my lads haven't been past Southampton so this would be a step into the unknown but you never known what might come from this trip maybe we might be able to start our first PNE supporters club in Nigeria!"
