Preston North End can confirm that Rob Kelly has been appointed assistant manager with immediate effect.

The former Leicester manager was brought into Paul Simpson's backroom team during June but due to the politics of the David Kelly situation, Rob had to take up the title of First Team Coach.

But after the situation became vacant earlier in the week Simpson had no hesitation in promoting Rob to be his second in command.

"He's got a real depth of knowledge from being involved in all levels of the game and hopefully he'll be able to step up and do this job for us as well," Simpson said about his new No.2.
