Boss Disappointed With Hull Showing
Paul Simpson was understandably disappointed after seeing his side go down to a 3-0 defeat at Hull's KC Stadium.
Goals from Dean Windass, Frazier Campbell and Andy Dawson did the damage as the Lilywhites once again found the going tough on their travels, and the manager felt his side performed well below the standards they're capable of producing.
"It was the worst performance of the season by far," claimed the North End boss.
"As a professional footballer I think you have to take pride in your performance and I don't think there was enough pride shown in the levels of performance. That's from a group of footballers that I trust and I think they've let themselves down.
"My emotions are a bit raw at the moment. They're a bit tethered and I don't think they'll be any different when I wake up in the morning and look at it again. I'm really disappointed with what I've seen from my players here.
"I put a team out today that I trusted and felt had enough to get a result against Hull City. No disrespect at all to Hull City but I think the players that went out there for Preston North End are definitely better than what they've shown.
"We allowed the ball to get through the centre of defence too easily for the first goal and we didn't close the ball down as quickly as we possibly should have done for the second. The third was a needless free kick on the edge of the box but sometimes you just have to applaud the finish - it was an excellent strike from Dawson.
"The players have defended well of late but I thought at times it was dreadful today. We can't have any complaints about the defeat because Hull City thoroughly deserved to beat us."
