There's been little time to dwell on the disappointment of the reverse to Crystal Palace at the weekend with Tuesday night's trip to Leicester so soon in the schedule.

From the sound of things, boss Alan Irvine appears to be putting the defeat behind him, and is instead using it as a motivational tool to get more out of his players in the tough tasks ahead...

Having seen the DVD of the Crystal Palace game, does it look any better or worse second time around?

"It's pretty much as I thought at the time. We never really started in the first half; second half we were a bit better and we were probably doing as well as we'd done at any point throughout the game when suddenly Palace got the goal. That was a disappointment, but we probably got what we deserved."

How can you explain the difference in performance from Tuesday (Stoke) to Saturday (Palace)?

"Possibly everyone expected that we would just turn up and win the game. I've had it described to me as an 'unexpected defeat', and when we are where we are in the league, it's unusual to be in a situation where defeats come as unexpected. We have to realise that every game is a big test for us, and in every game we have to perform at the best possible level that we can.

"We've been doing that to a large extent in recent games, with Stoke and even the Portsmouth game being good examples. We have to take that into the other games, and we can't think that we can take the foot off the gas when we play against a Crystal Palace team who are a decent team."

The good thing is that there's no relenting in the schedule and you can get straight back to work with the players to try and put things right.

"We had them in on Sunday - that session was already scheduled before Saturday's result - and of course we trained on Monday as usual. Everybody's feeling a bit sore about the weekend - understandably so - but we'll make sure that we pick the players up in time for the game against Leicester.

"It's important that it does hurt everybody to a certain extent, so I haven't been it too much of a rush to do that, or make things lighter in training.

"The fact is that we have to play again very soon, and we have to be ready to play. We haven't had that much time to dwell on what happened at the weekend, what went wrong, and we're looking to move on very quickly and be ready for the Leicester game."

Our encounters with the Foxes always seem to be tight, low-scoring affairs. Is that what you're expecting on Tuesday?

"I don't really know what's to come, but we've based a lot of our results on being very solid and hard to break down, so maybe Leicester are doing the same thing. Both teams really need their front players to start chipping in with goals at this stage.

"I expect that it won't be an easy place to go, and I believe the pitch is a little bit cut up as well, which will make things difficult for both teams. However, it'll be the same pitch for both teams, so I certainly won't be using that as an excuse for any kind of bad result."

They won on Saturday, and were you aware that they haven't won back-to-back games at all this season in the league?

"Well, I wasn't aware of it, but I hope that kind of record continues!"

Are you considering changes for Leicester?

"I always do. I always take a good look at what my options are for each game, and I consider many players for many different positions. It takes a long time to pick the team - even when it's going to be the same team.

"I will certainly have to look at it all very carefully, we've done some video work on them, and that may help me look in a certain direction with regards to our team."

When making that selection, have you got any extra injuries to contend with after Saturday?

"No, and on the positive side Michael Hart trained with us on Monday for the first time, which was great. He came through through the session without any problems, and hopefully we can say that his problems are behind him.

"He did the full session with the lads in the morning, and was training again in the afternoon. It'll take a long time to build everything up for him again, and we only really did a light session in the morning so it wouldn't have been too demanding for him, but it's good to see him out there with the rest of the lads.

"He took a little bit of time to settle into it, but he did very well as the training session went on. He'll play in the reserves when we think he's ready, but we've got to be careful that we don't think 'great, he's training with the lads, everything's perfect'. We'll just see how he goes."

And how about Richard Chaplow - any chance of a return?

"He did a little bit of light training on Monday but he's unlikely to be involved against Leicester. He played very well last Tuesday against Stoke and proved to be a goal threat, so it would have been nice to have been able to keep him in the team on the back of that kind of performance, but it wasn't to be.

"Darren Carter had been playing well before his suspension so it was a good chance to play him again. Did we miss Richard? Well, it possibly looks like it now, but we may well have lost the game with Richard playing anyway."
