Brown Gives Charlton A Ruud Awakening
Chris Brown has revealed that the prolific Dutch striker Ruud van Nistelrooy played an important part in his brace at Charlton.
The January signing explained that manager Alan Irvine sat North End's front men down and showed them all a video of the Real Madrid striker's goals in a bid to aid their scoring tally.
Van Nistelrooy, who holds the record for being Manchester United's top scorer in European competition, is recognised throughout the game for his predatory finishing and his ability to find himself in goalscoring areas.
And it seemed the number nine reaped the rewards, getting himself in a position to grab both goals in the fantastic 2-1 victory at the Valley.
The 23-year-old said: "We watched a video on Ruud van Nistelrooy about his goals and getting in the right areas. He doesn't necessarily score great goals all the time but he always seems to find the net and as a striker you have to admire people like that.
"We were in there for about 45 minutes, just watching and rewinding his movement . When you watch games you don't really take that on board until you stop it and watch every single thing that he does .
"I just need to be in the box when the ball's arriving, it's something I'm working on and it's not going to come over night, but as long as the team is winning then I'm happy."
Brown's second, and decisive, goal of the game was arguably one of the finest strikes of the weekend. His close range pivot-and-shot beat Nicky Weaver with only 13 minutes remaining to seal the points for North End.
He added: "It was just instinct really. It was one of those ones where, if you hit it right, then it has got a chance of going in. I was over the moon - I was going to jump in the crowd!
"It was a great ball in from Si (Whaley) and I just managed to get my big size ten on it. I'd tried to do it a few minutes earlier and I nearly tore my hamstring on that one - I think it was going over but the defender managed to get a block on it so it was a little warm-up."
