Callum Davidson has more reason than most to make sure he plays in North End's remaining fixtures. The dogged defender-cum-midfielder has been plagued by injuries throughout his career but the 31-year-old has been a regular fixture in the North End side this term.

He currently has 37 appearances to his name in all competitions and is looking for a further three to reach a personal milestone.

He said: "It's been a bit strange but obviously nice, I'm touching on 40 games now and that'll be the first time I've done that in about ten years."

And Davidson isn't running out of steam yet - he wants to help the side to a win over Sheffield United on Saturday that would virtually guarantee Preston's Championship status.

"It'll be a tough game. They're on a good run at the moment but so are we and it's important that we carry that on to the end of the season."

Both sides have hit a purple patch in recent weeks after less than satisfactory starts to the season. The charismatic Scot is already looking forward to a better return next season.

He said: I don't think I've played at my best this season but hopefully with an interrupted run right up till the start of next season I can improve five per cent or so and come back a better player."

Davidson also revealed that there is no fixed penalty taker for North End with Neil Mellor also being successful from the spot this season.

He said: "Me and Neil Mellor have discussed it and it depends who feels confident at the time in the game.

"If Mells is on the pitch and wants to take it then I've no problem with that because I've got every confidence in Neil Mellor to take a penalty."

Want to see who takes North End's next penalty? It could be this weekend. You can follow all the action live on Whites World this Saturday from 2.30pm.
