90+5 min: It's all over, the referee puts his whistle to his lips to bring an end to what has been a disappointing weekend  for Alan Irvine's men.

90+4 min: Leicester grab a late equaliser at the Walkers and at Deepdale Andy Lonergan is up for a corner as the Lilywhites try one last time to get an equaliser, Lonergan gets his head on the rebound but it's up in the air.

90  min: The normal time is up but there are to be five added minutes of extra-time.

87 min: Sedgwick is announced as the sponsors' man of the match as the crowd is announced as a rather healthy 13,994.

85 min: There's so much tension here. I'm spending just as much time looking at the vidiprinter for other results as I am watching the game live in front of me. Youl Mawene seems to have decided to become an attacker, he's spending plenty of time out on the right and it's from there that Kozluk clatters him to earn a yellow card.

80 min: A massive scoreline coming in from the Walkers Stadium, Leicester are losing at home to Colchester!

79 min: Simon Davey's trying to run the clock down and who can blame him. A second substitution sees Odejayi replaced by Michael Coulson.

76 min: A mixed reception shall we say as Macken is replaced by Ferenczi for Barnsley.

73 min: Real nerves here at Deepdale now. It could go either way but there's no doubting that PNE are going for it. Sedgwick is booked as he illegally halts one Barnsley counter-attack. Surely the Tykes will tire after the week that they've had?

70 min: It's real end-to-end stuff at Deepdale now as PNE go for the equaliser. They're leaving a few gaps at the back and Barnsley are doing their best to exploit the space, Macken fed Odejayi and but for a wonderful save from Lonergan it would have been 3-1.

67 min: Goal!!! Preston grab one back courtesy of a Foster own goal. It came after good pressure for PNE, Hawley nodded the ball on for Chaplow and he dinked the ball into the six-yard area, Mellor was lurking but Foster interviened to plant a perfect beyond Steele into the top corner.

64 min: The referee is making no friends at Deepdale this afternoon. Mellor looked to have been wrestled to the ground whilst trying to go clean through but the ref was having none of it, the linesman then flags Mellor offside on a marginal decision as he was clean through on goal.

59 min: Neal makes an immiediate impression and twice in the opening few moments of his introduction he gets himself into the box and his twisting and turning gets the crowd off their seat at least for a moment or two.

55 min: Preston boss Alan Irvine makes an immediate change with Simon Whaley and Darren Carter being replaced at the expense of Lewis Neal and Richard Chaplow.

54 min: But it's Barnsley who get the firs togal of the second half. It's Jon Macken who coolly slots past Andy Lonergan from penalty spot after Jones was alleged to have fouled Campbell-Ryce in the box after a neat one-two with Odejayi.

49 min: PNE start the second half on the attack. Neil Mellor, Simon Whaley and Billy Jones causing havoc down the right, both Whaley and Jones have great opportunites to drill the ball across the six-yard box but there is nobody there to take advantage as Barnsley scramble the ball clear.

Half-Time: St Stephens from Broadgate win the Soccer Skills Schools Challenge.

45 min: The first half is over. A rumble of a few boos from the PNE support but Barnsley fans will be absolutely delighted with the scoreline so far.

40 min: A couple of decent chances for North End. The first comes as Chris Sedgwick, having switches wings, gets the time to drift a ball to the back post where his opposite wing-man, Whaley, rises highest to power a header at goal, it's just over. Seconds later Whaley turns provider when he gets to the byline and whacks the ball across the six-yard box, it was begging to be poked home but there was nobody there to take advantage.

39 min: With Coventry and Southampton winning below them in the table it's not proving to be such a good few minutes for Alan Irvine's side.

33 min: Goal for Barnsley! It's one for the highlights show as it's an absolute belter of a free-kick hit from about 25 yards out, it was curling away from Lonergan all the way and it crept inside the keeper's near post much to delight to the long haired Spaniard.

30 min: Preston almost grab a very cheeky goal. Sedgwick is fouled about 30 yards out and whilst the Barnsley players are organising their wall Darren Carter steps up to take a quick one, Steel was caught unawares trying to organise the wall at his near post, Carter put the ball to the far post but it was agonisingly wide. And it would have stood!

24 min: Macken is booked following a series of minor offences. Some dodgy old geezer in the executive area gets a piece of scrap paper from his pocket stands up and shows Macken his own improvised version of a card. In his drunken mind that was probably quite funny, nobody around him laughed.

23 min: Another good chance for the Lilywhites, this time as Whaley dances around on the edge of the box with the ball at his feet, he finally gets space for a shot but he drills it into a crowd of players, the ball falls kindly for Mawene of all people but his shot shows why he is a defender, it bobbles wide of the post.

22 min: North End haven't seen much coming down the right flank but Sedgwick and and Jones soon put that right, the pair combine brilliantly before Jones gets to the byline and whips in a cross towards Mellor at the near post, the ball evades the PNE man and flashes across the face of goal.

18 min: Barnsley's fans are definitely outsinging the home support this afternoon. 'Diego, Diego' they sing and right on cue the Spaniard creates the Tykes' best chance so far, cutting in from the right he gets plenty of space in the box before Sean St. Ledger puts in a wonderfully times sliding block just as Leon looks to be ready to unleash a shot.

16 min: A couple of scorelines elsewhere, Blackpool are losing 1-0 at Cardiff whilst Southampton are beating Charlton by the same scoreline at the Valley.

12 min: Rob Kuzluk is clattered by Carter, I'm surprised some of Kozluk's own team-mates aren't clattering after his comments in today's match programme.

8 min: North End have dominated the opening exchanges in terms of possession and territory but they haven't really found a chink in the Barnsley armoury just yet. Just as I'm writing that Darren Carter has a great opportunity, he picks the ball up on the edge of the box plays a one-two with Whaley and hit a low effort from about 12 yards out, but it's straight into Luke Steele's breadbasket.

2 min: The first noticable thing is the amount of fans Barnsley have brought to Deepdale. They took in the region of 33,000 to Wembley and it seems that a few of them are here today at the Wembley of the North.

1 min: We're underway. Preston North End playing into the Bill Shankly Kop in the first half, as seems to be the tradition these days.

1455: The high-energy music is blasting out around Deepdale so that must mean that we're almost ready for kick-off. My dulcet Yorkshire tones are off the airwaves now, some might say for the best, so you have my full undivided attention for the next two hours. Come on you Lilywhites!!!

1445: The two teams are warming up in front of us. The ex-Northenders have all had a warm round of applause from the PNE fans.

1435: Rob Urbani and myself have just gone live on Whites World, meanwhile the third member of the media team is undertaking duties pitchside, he's our new pitchside announcer, let's hope he reads the teams out at the correct speed!

1429: I've relocated from the office to the press-box after collecting the line-ups. The weather's quite pleasant, no need at all for the scarf and hat that I've arrived in.

1409: Jon Macken returns to Deepdale alongside Simon Davey, Ryan Kidd and Kelham O'Hanlon.

PNE: Lonergan, Jones, Mawene, St. Ledger, Davidson, Sedgwick, McKenna, Carter, Whaley, Hawley, Mellor. Subs: Chaplow, Hill, Trotman, L Neal, C Neal.
Barnsley: Steele, Hassell, Nyatanga, Kozluk, Van Homoet, Leon, Souza, Odejayi, Macken, Campbell-Ryce, Foster, Subs: Coulson, Togwell, Ferenczi, Butterfield, Letheren.

1401: The teams are in and there is one surprising change of the afternoon with no Chris Brown in the 16. Karl Hawley into replace North End's talisman with Trotman being added to the bench at the expense of the departed Tamas Priskin.

1359: The food has arrived in the press room and that's where I've just been! A lovely assortment of delights on offer this afternoon, spicy chicken, onion bhajis and a variety of sandwiches. Lovely stuff, stoking the fires for this afternoon's entertainment.

1345: The goals are flying in in the early kick-offs. The Scottish FA Cup semi-final is an absolute belter of a game, Queen of the South are currently beating Aberdeen 4-3! Michael Hart will be having kittens, he's said in today's programme that he might be going to see his old Aberdeen team-mates in the final!

1330: No team news as yet but Neil Mellor is expected to make a speedy return to action following a half-time withdrawal at QPR last week. 'For He's A Jolly Good Mellor' has grabbed three goals in the last two games and will be keen to make up for that penalty miss at Oakwell.

1319: The U's in question are Colchester. They're already relegated but a win at Leicester this afternoon and three points for Alan Irvine's men will mean that it's impossible for us to get relegated.

1317: Good afternoon and welcome to this afternoon's minute by minute match report. Hopefully come 5pm tonight we'll be talking about a Preston North End team that is mathematically safe from relegation. Come on you U's and Lilywhites!
