90 + 2 mins - Referee Mr Williamson blows the final whistle to signal the end of the season for the Lilywhites. The PNE players make their way over to the Wedlock Stand to applaud their supporters and throw their shirts into the crowd. The result means that Bristol City look set to play Crystal Palace in the Play-Offs. At the bottom of the table, Leicester City are condemned to League One next season. Thankyou for sticking with us this season and we look forward to the start of the 2008/09 campaign already. Enjoy your summer!

90 mins - Two minutes of addtional time are to be played.

89 mins - Neil Mellor is refusing to throw in the towel as he carries the ball into the area before unleashing a goal-bound effort from a narrow angle which Basso palms away from the target.

87 mins - For a moment it looked like Paul McKenna might be destined to score his first goal of the season but Basso makes a decent save to prevent the PNE captain from pulling a goal back.

85 mins - A strong rendition of Elvis can be heard bellowing out by the North End supporters, who again have travelled in large numbers to watch their side this afternoon.

80 mins - What is the linesman doing! Ivan Sproule was about 10 yards offside but the linesman, who must have been daydreaming about his summer holidays in Spain, takes an age to raise his flag.

77 mins - Simon Whaley forces a corner for PNE. There's ironic cheers as the ball spins away and hits a policeman on the back.

74 mins - Lee Trundle receives a standing ovation from the Bristol City spectators as he departs the pitch. Ivan Sproule is the final substitution of the game.

67 mins - Gary Johnson introduces his son into the action. Nick Carle is the man to make way.

66 mins - Matty Hill makes a stunning last-gasp clearance to prevent Lee Trundle from making it 4-0. The former Swansea man had broke clear, rounded Andy Lonergan but Hilly anticipated the situation fantastically to clear from off the goal line.

62 mins - Lee Trundle's left-footed shot clips the top of the crossbar. Gary Johnson makes his first change of the afternoon withdrawing Dele Adebola and introducing Enoch Showunmi.

60 mins - North End respond to the change by coming within inches of pulling a goal back. Neal Trotman lost his marker inside the Bristol City box, headed on to Sean St Ledger but the Player of the Year's headed effort is blocked and floats onto the roof of Basso's net.

58 mins - Alan Irvine makes a triple substitution replacing Chris Brown, Chris Sedgwick and Lewis Neal with Craig Beattie, Darren Carter and Simon Whaley.

56 mins - Neal Trotman's last ditch clearance halts Lee Trundle.

51 mins - Goal for Bristol City! David Noble curls in a free-kick with his right foot to make the score 3-0 to the Robins.

50 mins - Chris Sedgwick's name is added to the referee's book as he becomes the third PNE player to be yellow carded this afternoon. The tricky midfielder trips the galloping Lee Trundle right on the edge of the box.

48 mins - Paul McKenna breaks through the centre of the park. He tries the long range lob over Basso, but the Brazillian keeper retreats to his goal line and claims the ball easily.

46 mins - Nick Carle's wild effort from the edge of the box is the first attempt on Andy Lonergan's goal in the second 45 minutes.

15.05 - The Robins get the second half underway...

15.00 - The piece of paper with today's attendance has just been handed to me by Bristol City's press guy Adam Baker. There's 19,169 spectators in Ashton Gate this afternoon with 1,349 of them coming from Preston.

14.56 - The half-time entertainment at Ashton Gate consists of fans trying to kick a ball through a hole in a wooden board. It's a bit like the challenge that the 'fans of the week' have to do on Soccer AM.

45 + 2 mins - Paul McKenna's deep cross finds the head of Neal Trotman. The former Oldham man can't quite get over the ball and heads over. It's the last action of the half as the referee's whistle signals the interval.

45 mins - Two minutes of stoppage time are to be played as the fourth official appears from the technical area with his digital board.

44 mins - Richard Chaplow is the second Preston player to be booked.

42 mins - PNE come within inches of halving the deficit. Michael Hart, overlapping down the right plays the ball into Chris Brown whose neat flick looks goal-bound. Neil Mellor nips in and looks to divert the ball past the wrong footed Adriano Basso but it agonisingly lands the wrong side of the post. A promising move from North End.

39 mins - Chris Brown is penalised for a foul inside the Bristol City penalty area. It's a harsh decision on the big forward.

33 mins - Neil Mellor shows strength and pace to fend off Louis Carey before letting one rip with his left foot. Basso is worried for a split second as the number 33's long distance attempt skids just wide of his left-hand post.
.
30 mins - Paul McKenna and Chris Sedgwick almost carve the Robins defence apart but Jamie McCombe is in the right place to cut out the ball inside his own six-yard box.

28 mins - Matt Hill becomes the first name in the referee's note book as he is brandished the yellow card for a foul on Lee Trundle.

26 mins - Lewis Neal slices a shot just over the bar with his favoured left foot from the edge of the box. Richard Chaplow picked the wide-man out, however his effort is just a bit too high.

25 mins - Adriano Basso in the Bristol goal almost beats himself when trying to control a Louis Carey back-pass. Luckily for the keeper, Chris Brown had been caught unaware.

22 mins - Lee Trundle controls a long punt forward before firing just wide with a neat turn-and-shot.

20 mins - Adebola almost makes it 3-0 for the Robins but he can't direct his header on target after he was put under physical pressure from Sean St Ledger.

17 mins - Goal for Bristol City! Michael McIndoe slots the ball past Andy Lonergan after linking up well with Lee Trundle. Lonners tried his best to stop the ball but unfortunately it just trickled over the line.

12 mins - A great move from Preston ends with Richard Chaplow misfiring from 10 yards following fine build-up play from Lewis Neal and Chris Brown.

10 mins - Sean St Ledger plays a deep ball into the Bristol City area but it's just a bit too high for Neal Trotman, who had advanced from his centre-back position.

8 mins - Goal for Bristol City! Paul McKenna commits a foul midway inside the PNE half. From the resulting free-kick, McIndoe floats in a hanging ball, Louis Carey connects with his head and Lee Trundle pokes home from close range.

3 mins - News is just filtering through that Blackpool have taken the lead at home to Watford.

1 mins - Great defending by Neal Trotman as he out-muscles Dele Adebola before heading back to Andy Lonergan in goal.

14.00 - Right, I'm back in my seat just in time for kick-off as Neil Mellor and Richard Chaplow start the game.

13.33 - I'm just off on Whites World duty so I'll be back with you shortly before kick-off.

13.26 - The weather on the drive down this morning was horrendous but thankfully Ashton Gate is now bathed in glorious sunshine.

13.24 - The teams have just appeared for the warm-up. Matty Hill was the first to run out of the tunnel for North End and he received a great reception from the Bristol City support. Good to see.

13.13 - The teams are in. Sean St Ledger returns to partner Neal Trotman in the heart of the defence while Matty Hill also gets a start against his former club. Alan Irvine also selects five outfield players on the substitutes bench.

PNE: Lonergan, Hart, Trotman, St Ledger, Hill, Sedgwick, McKenna (c), Chaplow, Lewis Neal, Brown, Mellor (Subs: Davidson, Hawley, Beattie, Carter, Whaley)

Bristol City: Basso, Orr, Carey (c), McCombe, McAllister, Noble, Elliott, Carle, McIndoe, Trundle, Adebola (Subs: Fontaine, Showumni, Weale, Sproule, Johnson)

13.05 - We've got a 'different' vantage point today. The press are all locked away behind a glass window in one of the more traditional style press boxes in this division. You don't quite get a sense of the atmosphere which is a bit disappointing considering that it's more or less a sell-out this afternoon.

13.00 - Welcome to Ashton Gate for the final Championship match of the season. North End are safe in the knowledge that their status in this division is secure for next season but the Robins are aiming for promotion to the Premiership through the Play-Off back door. A win for Gary Johnson's men and they will have home advantage for the crucial second leg but North End will be looking for three points that could potentially secure a 14th placed finish. It should be an interesting afternoon.
