Preston North End midfielder Chris Sedgwick will undergo the surgeon's knife during the close season in order to clear-up a hernia problem.

Sedgwick is not expected to miss any of pre-season for a surgical procedure which is expected to take four to six weeks to recover from.

"They've opted for the laparoscopic procedure which is a key-hole procedure, they'll make incisions into his stomach and go in behind and repair it," explained Preston North End physio Matt Radcliffe.

"The recovery time from this sort of surgery can be anything from two to six weeks so he'll be back for pre-season barring any complications.

"He's had a previous hernia done before on one side, the other side needs doing so it's more of a case having the surgery now and getting it sorted before it becomes a problem next season."
