Right across the UK, over one June weekend, 50 BBC Springwatch Action Teams (SWAT) are rolling up their sleeves, picking up their tools and turning unloved pieces of land into nature and people-friendly 'Breathing Places'.

There's a SWAT project near you, and Deepdale Duck needs your help! On Saturday 7th June, come along to Moor Park from 10am to 5pm, join in the challenge, have some fun and do something to help Preston's natural environment.

At Moor Park, the plan is to create a BBC Breathing Place for people and for nature. Activities will include
making nesting platforms for birds to be placed on the Serpentine Lake (ideal for Deepdale Duck!), planting wildflower and woodland plants, making bird, bat, owl and toad boxes, dead hedging, making bug hotels, planting wild strawberries and much more.

There'll be lots of other family activities too, including pond dipping, meeting rescued hedgehogs, wild storytelling, wood bodging, face painting and bug hunting, which our ever-popular mascot will be all too keen to oblige with!

The team of enthusiastic volunteers and experts have just one day to transform this neglected patch of land. They'll need all their ingenuity and determination to make it happen?it's a sort of Challenge Anneka meets Gardener's World!

The SWAT weekend takes place alongside BBC One's Springwatch - when Bill Oddie, Kate Humble and Simon King take a close look at how spring is progressing up and down the country.

Sophie Duncan, BBC Breathing Places Project Executive, said:

"With fifty Springwatch Action Teams out and about across the UK this weekend, and with hands-on help from the public, we can really make a long-lasting difference for local people, local places and for wildlife too.

"Over the coming years, all of them can benefit from these special 'Breathing Places'."

BBC Breathing Places is a major campaign to inspire and motivate people to create and care for nature-friendly green places wherever they live. Find out more about Breathing Places and all the SWAT events taking places at 50 sites across the UK at www.bbc.co.uk/breathingplaces.
