Deepdale Set For Revamp
Preston North End Chairman Derek Shaw has revealed that the Club will be taking on extra ground maintenance staff in order to keep the completed Deepdale in pristine condition.
The completion of the Invincibles Pavilion will bring an end to a major revelopment of PNE's home ground, a project which began in the summer of 1995 when the old West Stand was demolished to make way for the Sir Tom Finney Stand. It might be hard to believe that the Finney Stand is now more than 12 years old but the Chairman is determined to ensure that the Club's three older stands don't look out of place compared to the new Invincibles Pavilion.
Shaw said: "We will have a fantastic stadium when everything is completed and that would almost be job done as far as Deepdale is concerned.
"There will be still some maintenance work to be done and we are taking on more staff because we feel that the Finney Stand, the Kelly Stand and the Shankly Kop are looking a bit tired in some areas, those stands are a few years old now, especially the Finney Stand.
"We want to get it all back into pristine condition so that we have a stadium to be proud of, I want Deepdale to be a showpiece stadium."
North End are expected to take on extra staff for the clean-up operation and the Chairman is fully aware that it will be an ongoing process.
"It will be a continuous job, a bit like the Forth Bridge Project," said the Chairman.
"We also have a training ground which always needs plenty of maintenance, and also the accommodation that the scholars stay in, there is lots of maintenance work here which needs doing and we felt that it is time that we increased our staff members in the maintenance department and that is one of the jobs that we have been doing over the last few weeks.
"Hopefully before long we will start seeing an improvement on the standard of the outside of the stadium."
- The Club can confirm that the new big screen in no way obstructs the view of supporters anywhere on the Bill Shankly Kop. It was selected to go on Kop on the basis that it will not be seen by the stand with the lowest number of home supporters, however, those wishing to move to another stand can do so by contacting the ticket office.
