The two-week tour from Lancashire County Council's Road Safety Group will target primary age children - one of the road user groups most at risk.

Eddie, midfielder with Preston North End, who is sponsored by the Road Safety Group said: "The production aims to remind children of the importance of staying safe on the roads. Preston North End is delighted to support the work of the Road Safety Group. Hopefully we can help to raise awareness of road safety issues at the heart of the local community and this exciting initiative is just one way where we can do this."

The drama revolves around 'Catrina Ninelives' who ends up in the banishment land of 'Deepest Trubble' after an accident on her new micro-scooter. Using songs to involve the audience, Cat Ninelives encourages children to use common sense when out and about.

In 2003 there were 57 children killed or seriously injured and 326 slight injuries in the 4-11 age group across the County. This compares with 65 killed or seriously injured and 385 slight injuries in this age group in 2002.

Although the casualty rates are falling, the Road Safety Group must continue to work closely with the local community in an effort to reduce road casualties even further. Clare Farrer, Principal Road Safety Adviser explained: "We are keen to introduce road safety messages to children at a young age. With initiatives such as Theatre In Education we hope to capture the imagination of young audiences and get across important messages about cycle and pedestrian safety.

"As children become more independent, road safety education is fundamentally important to keep them safe on the roads. With the help of primary schools and the support of Preston North End we can educate young road users to be safety conscious on the County's roads."
